Day 1 NJP to Darjeeling
Pick up from Bagdogra/NJP and head towards the Queen of Hills Darjeeling.
You can add a little adventure to your visit by opting to enjoy the Toy train ride of Darjeeling Himalayan Railways (DHR) from Kurseong to Darjeeling. Riding the Toy Train has always remained a coveted experience to the tourists.
You can get down at Kurseong and take the daily school train that runs between Kurseong and Darjeeling. This steam hauled train starts from Kurseong at 7:00am in the morning (no. 52587) and reaches Darjeeling at 9:40am.
Thereafter, check in to your hotel.
In the afternoon you can set off for a sightseeing tour. Visit the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park famous for the Red Panda (closed on Thursday) Tenzing Rock, Tibetan Refugee Self-help Centre (closed on Sunday), Tea Garden (outer view), and Japanese Temple. Evening free. Overnight stay at hotel in Darjeeling.
Day 2 Darjeeling half day Sightseeing and transfer to Gangtok
Early in the Morning (at 4.00 am) drive to Tiger Hill to watch the spectacular Sunrise over Mt. Khangchendzonga (28,208 ft), the world’s third highest mountain.
On your way back visit Ghoom Monastery and Batasia Loop. Thereafter, transfer to the Land of the Pristine and unspoilt natural beauty, Sikkim.
Check in at Gangtok (5500 Ft) hotel. Enjoy your leisure hours with a walk through the Mall. Overnight at Gangtok.
Day 3 Gangtok To Lachung
Pick up from Gangtok and drive to Lachung (120km).
On the way stop and enjoy a few wonderful locations like Tashi Viewpoint, Kabi Lungstok, Naga Waterfalls, the confluence of Lachen chu and Lachung Chu at Chungthang, Twin Waterfalls and Bhim Nala Waterfalls.
Have lunch at Namok at a wayside eatery and reach Lachung by late afternoon. Enjoy the evening on your own at the bank of the river. Overnight stay will be at Lachung.
Day 4 Excursion To Yumthang Valley excursion and transfer to Gangtok
After breakfast leave for Yumthang (11,800 ft.), the “Valley of flowers”.
You will be driving across the Shingba Rhododendrom Sanctuary which has more than 120 species of Rhododendron trees and is also the home to the endemic Rhododendron Niveum, the State Tree of Sikkim to reach Yumthang Valley.
Yumthang is a lush green valley with herds of Yak grazing around and surrounded by snow peaks on all sides. In April / May / June the valley erupts in a riot of colours as Rhododendrons, Primulae and many other Alpine Flowers are in full bloom.
In the winter, Yumthang is sombre with snow all around, and the snow clad mountains add to the ethereal beauty of this place.
On the way back, you may visit the hot spring across the Lachung River, although it is mainly used for bathing purposes by the army personnel.
Return to Lachung for lunch. After lunch leave for Gangtok. On the way, stop in between at Singhik and Mangan and if the weather is clear you may get to see the Khangchendzonga Range. Mangan offers a majestic view of Mt. Pandim, Mt. Kabru, Mt. Simvo, Mt. Jopuno, Mt. Khangchendzonga and Mt. Siniolchu.
Day 5 Gangtok excursion To Tsomgo Lake & Baba Mandir
After breakfast proceed for excursion to Tsongmo Lake (12,210 Ft), a 40 km drive which takes about 2.5 hrs. This lake is located very close to Nathula Pass which is the entry point to China & remains frozen for most part of the year. Relax and relish the surroundings, majestic snowy peaks which feed the lake and the clean fresh air. Thereafter, visit Baba Mandir (New), a memorial in the name of Baba Harbhajan Singh. Back to Gangtok . Rest of the day is free for leisure. Overnight at Gangtok
Day 6 Gangtok Local Sightseeing
After Breakfast, we set off for the local sightseeing of Gangtok covering Shanti View Point, Do-Drul Chorten, Research Institute of Tibetology, Directorate of Handicraft & Handloom and Flower Show.
The Do-Drul Chorten (Stupa) is one of the most important stupas of Sikkim and is built by the head of the Nyingma order- Trullshi Rimpoche in 1945. It contains rare details of Dorji Phupa, Holy Books, Mantras and is encircled by 108 prayer wheels.
The Namgyal Institute of Tibetology built in 1958 in traditional style, a renowned worldwide centre for the study of the Mahayana Buddhist philosophy & religion, a treasure house of rare Thankas, statues, over 200 Buddhist icons and prized objects of art. Thereafter visit the Rumtek Monastry. In the evening, relax & refresh yourself & explore the city. Overnight at Gangtok.
Day 7 Gangtok to NJP / Bagdogra
After breakfast, leave for your onward journey to NJP / Bagdogra.
